The theme "shelter" is what prompted me to produce this art. The piece is inspired by a Filipino builder/artist who created "hives" for shelter on a sparsely inhabited, remote island in Darocoton Bay in the South China Sea.

I had an opportunity to speak to a young couple who were quarantined in such a hive for a number of weeks amid the Covid-19 crisis.

Isolation in this environment creates a number of challenges: food shortages, resource scarcity, class stratification, cultural clashes. However, a shelter so inviting and beautiful offers many rewards beyond physical comfort.
